The miner Kubuk is the slowest to flee from the breach. Will they make it to the relative safety of our military line? Indeed, will our military line block off access to our stairwell in time? Is this malediction caused by those demons? Does this mean that once we've broken their forces, the time distortion that has been slowly increasing in intensity will be broken as well? One way to find out! Unfortunately, the mining staff is slow to retreat. Great waves of time distortion wash over our forces. Our no-doubt victorious soldiers will have access to the mining flophouse, so they won't starve or dehydrate, and they'll be able to sleep if they need to, while our citizens will be completely safe as long as the demons can't navigate their way through the Great Magma Sea. Just to be safe, I'll have the masons wall up the entry to our main stairwell. Our forty soldiers ordered downstairs will only be outnumbered 2.5 to 1, assuming none of them are too busy eating, sleeping, or drinking to enter battle. There's only 101 known demons facing us at the moment, plus any that are still hiding beyond the fog of war and any reinforcements that arrive from below. Little things like the downfall of world civilization tend to wear on the composure of the weak-minded. I'll hold Gromda's Guard in reserve, since we're likely to need to deal with panicky citizens. We've got a crack military, so we might as well send them in to see if they can sort out this invasion. My question for the community is, am I better off playing the non-Steam version until these issues are fixed/addressed, or are the improvements from the Steam version big enough that I should still play the Steam version instead anyway, after coming back from a 10 year hiatus? Basically I just want to play the ‘best version’ available now after returning from a 10 year break, but don’t want to get the muscle memory retrained for the old version if the issues I have with the new Steam version are negligible or will soon be resolved anyway.Well, no use crying about damage that's already been done. I LOVED reading the combat logs, getting detailed descriptions of my dwarves (I know it becomes a non issue after a few migrant waves because you can’t keep track of everyone in a larger population anyway, and the game seems borderline unplayable without dwarf therapist unless the work assignments screen is further upgraded. I see that some things are missing from the new Steam release such as a full combat log, frame by frame speed control (mainly for watching battles unfold), health log, individual dwarf info (preferences, deities, appearance, etc) and dwarf therapist. Now that I see the Steam release, and upgraded to a AMD Ryzen 7 3800x, I am compelled to play DF again. I loooove DF but had stopped playing for around 10 years while I waited for CPUs or optimization to get better because I was tired of ‘losing’ to FPS death.
